Guild Wars 2: How to Get the Griffon Mount

The Griffon was the first flying mount that was introduced in Path of Fire expansion as a secret mount. In this guide, we will go over how you can get a Griffon in Guild Wars 2.

How to get the Griffon

To get the Griffon, you have to own the Path of Fire expansion and complete the story then proceed to complete a series of six collections that will take you over all the maps of the Crystal Desert in search of Griffin eggs and a bunch of other items.

To get started, make sure you have the following:

• A Springer with the High Vault mastery.
• A Jackal (Optional but helpful).
• 250 gold.

To start the series of collections, you have to head over to the Sunspear Sanctuary which is located in the Yahnur Plateau, southeast of the Domain of Vabbi, and then interact with the Remains of the Last Spearmarshal to unlock the collections.

To get the Remains of the Last Spearmarshal:

1. Take the Jackal portal in Resplendent Trace, and this will take you to the other side of the mountain.
2. Take the second portal using your Jackal.
3. Use your Springer to get to the Sunspear Sanctuary.

Open Skies: Crystal Oasis​

Item	Description	Directions
Gundayo, the Rune of Honesty	Take the Legendary Corrupted Facet bounty from the board in Destiny’s Gorge [&BJMKAAA=], then head north to Maculate’s facet to defeat it.
Lustrous Coastal Griffon Egg	While still in Maculate Fringe, climb up the pyramid using your Springer. You can then either keep climbing till you reach the peak or use your Jackal to take the portal and then jump to the peak.
Icon of the Goddess	Complete the Renown Heart at Temple of Kormir Waypoint [&BEAKAAA=], and purchase the item for 25 Gold from Priest Hakim.
Sunspear Tithe	Complete the Renown Heart at Amnoon Farms, and purchase the item for 25 Gold from Priestess Karima.
Warmed Coastal Griffon Egg	Head back to Temple of Kormir Waypoint [&BEAKAAA=] and use your Springer to climb up to where the Griffon is. Use the tent facing the waypoint then climb up the mountains.
Browned Coastal Griffon Egg	From the same location, glide all the way across Hatari Tablelands till you get to the egg as marked on the map.
Dusty Coastal Griffon Egg	Use your Springer to get to the egg that is lying on a pillar in the Sanctum of Nabkha.
Ridged Coastal Griffon Egg	Head back to where you got the Warmed Coastal Griffon Egg then use the Griffon to go down the mountain and then into a cave. Check the map for reference.

After completing this collection, it is now time to proceed to Desert Highlands

Zaklem, the Rune of Loyalty	Complete the “Defend a Sunspear from the Mordant Crescent” event in Kanuz Cache.
Enormous Supply of Bird Feed	Purchase the item from Groffmok, the Renown Heart vendor at Lommuld Kraal Waypoint [&BGoKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Survival Supplies	Purchase the item from Tendaji, the Renown Heart vendor at Makali Outpost Waypoint [&BGsKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Warmed Mountain Griffon Egg	Head south from the Highjump Ranch Waypoint [&BJ0KAAA=], and use your Springer to get the egg.
Crusty Mountain Griffon Egg	From the same spot, take the Griffon and fly toward the Godfall Tower.
Rough Mountain Griffon Egg	Simply get to the Giant’s Steps point of interest [&BD4KAAA=], and use your Springer to climb up the monument.
Vibrant Mountain Griffon Egg	Go back to the Highjump Ranch Waypoint [&BJ0KAAA=], and use your Springer to climb up the mountain to the south.
Damp Mountain Griffon Egg	Just climb up the mountain from south of the Derelict Delve Waypoint [&BKQKAAA=], and use a glider or your Springer to get down to the ledge.

Collect all the items, then make your way toward Elon Riverlands to continue the series.

Giwebo, the Rune of Humility	Complete the event “Defeat the Champion unbound djinn” located in Bahdaj Vigil [&BJgKAAA=].
Relic Preservation Materials	Purchase the item from Follower Xunn, the Renown Heart vendor north of Augury’s Shadow Waypoint [&BFMKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Maps to the Outpost	Purchase the item from Ebele, the Renown Heart vendor east of Olishar’s Oasis Camp Waypoint [&BCgKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Warmed Riparian Griffon Egg	Head west from Olishar’s Oasis Camp Waypoint, and use your Springer to climb up the mountain.
Rocky Riparian Griffon Egg	Head south from Skimmer Ranch, and use your Springer to climb up the mountain.
Azure Riparian Griffon Egg	Next to the vista in Arid Gladefields. You should also use your Springer to climb up the statue.

Ancient Sunspear Flags	Purchase the item from Dunkoro, the Renown Heart vendor north of Lair of the Forgotten Waypoint [&BMEKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Prayer Lights	Purchase the item from Kisha Odili, the Renown Heart vendor in the Bonestrand Waypoint [&BNwKAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Warmed Canyon Griffon Egg	From The Scourgeway Waypoint [&BHMKAAA=], cross the first bridge heading south then take a left and cross the Sulfurous river. Use your Springer to climb up the mountains till you get to the Griffon nest.
Dark Canyon Griffon Egg	From the Warmed Canyon Griffon Egg, use the Griffon to fly across to the statue.
Pale Canyon Griffon Egg	There are two ways to do that, either head back to Warmed Canyon Griffon Egg and take the Griffon to the location on the map, or get to the location, then use your Springer to climb up the rock, but this can be a bit tricky.
Mottled Canyon Griffon Egg	From The Darklands Waypoint [&BKMKAAA=], head east using your Springer till you get to a cliff.

Yasfahr, the Rune of Sacrifice	Take the Vehtendi Academy Waypoint [&BA8KAAA=], and make your way up to the Headmaster’s office where there will be a small door that leads to the basement. Complete the event “Help First Spear Kitur recover his equipment and escape imprisonment” to earn this item.
Stone-Carving Tools	Purchase the item from Awakened Servant Tooraj, the Renown Heart vendor south of Vehjin Palace Waypoint [&BO0KAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Guard Bribe	Purchase the item from Distinguished Professor Nazimi, the Renown Heart vendor south of Vehtendi Academy Waypoint [&BA8KAAA=] for 25 Gold.
Warmed Vabbian Griffon Egg	Use the Spearmarshal’s Plea to head back to Spearmarshal’s Lament, then make your way to the Griffon’s nest.
Cracked Vabbian Griffon Egg	Use the same Griffon that you got from the Warmed Egg, and make your way to the other side of the mountain, to the highest peak.
Polished Vabbian Griffon Egg	Using the Griffon, fly to the dome in the Hanging Gardens of Djinn.
Ruddy Vabbian Griffon Egg	Using the Griffon from the Warmed Egg, cross all the way to the Resplendent Trace.
Charged Vabbian Griffon Egg	Using the Griffon from the Warmed Egg, cross the river and head west.

Once you completed all the above collections, use Spearmarshal’s Plea to return to the last Spearmarshal and place all five eggs in their respective places by interacting with the icons. Doing this completes the Sunspear Sanctuary collection and unlocks the Sunspear Wisdom collection.

You will earn the Divine Passage which you should take the Tomb of the Primeval Kings. Then reopen the portal to Kormir’s library, and complete the Sunspear Wisdom achievement.

Open Skies: Sunspear Wisdom

The goal is to collect 10 volumes of Writings of the Last Spearmarshal that are hidden in chests and spread all over the library. To unlock those chests, you have to defeat the Elites that can also be found around the library, and take the key that they drop.

Every Cache of Sunspear Wisdom you unlock will consume one key, so you will need a total of 10 keys to unlock them all and get

Once you have all the items, head back to the Remains of the Last Spearmarshal using Spearmarshal’s Plea to complete the last collection, Open Skies: Sunspear Wisdom.

Interact with the large Statue of Kormir that will take you to a solo instance where you have to confront a champion. It’s pretty simple, every 25% the boss will become immune, and you have to get on a Griffon and use swoop to make him immune again.

Mastery	Mastery Points	Description
Soaring Rescue	3	Allows you to mount and dismount a Griffon while in mid-air.
Aerial Prowess	4	Allows you to dive and pull up. Those two abilities, combined with good momentum makes the Griffon as fast as a Roller Beetle, or even faster.
Aerial Finesse	5	Wing Flap can now be used to gain a burst of momentum while diving or climbing.
