GW2 The Ascension - PvP Legendary Back item

The Ascension is a Legendary Backpack that can only be obtained through the PvP game mode in Guild Wars 2. If you are a player who enjoys this game mode, then this should be something that you should aim to get in the long term.

This Legendary back piece, just like any other, can have its stats changed at any point in time without paying a single copper. Moreover, you can change its appearance without spending any Transmutation charges, this is the convenience that comes with The Ascension.

However, this kind of convenience comes at a hefty price in terms of gold and time as you have to complete collections, reach crafting rank 500 on one of the available disciplines, and of course, play a lot of PvP matches on all classes.

To make things a bit easier, this guide will go over how you can obtain the PvP Legendary Back item with ease by following a step-by-step process that will guarantee you ascension. Also, as a quick tip, try checking decent PvP builds and getting some good practice before you attempt getting this legendary.

How to get The Ascension

To get The Ascension, you have to get three gifts and the Wings of Ascension which is the precursor back piece needed to craft this item. Bring all those to the Mystic Forge, hit the Forge button, and you are done. Easy, isn’t it? Well, not quite. Here is a list of all the items you need to get.

  • Wings of Ascension
  • Gift of the Competitor
  • Gift of Skirmishing
  • Gift of Fortune

PvP League Tickets

Before we dive deeper, let us talk about the time-gated item that you have to know about before proceeding with this guide. To get The Ascension, you need to get PvP League Tickets 125 PvP League Tickets, and those tickets are earned by unlocking the limited chests from Reward Tracks.

You can get a maximum of 100 PvP League Tickets per season, and every season lasts for 2 months. You can also participate in mini seasons that run for 2 weeks and reward 35 League Tickets.

So, if you are extremely efficient, you can get the back piece in two months, and if you’re not, then you are looking at a four-month window, which is two seasons.

Crafting the Wings of Ascension

Wings of Ascension

To craft the precursor, you have to purchase four Wings of Glory from the League Vendor which can be found in the Heart of the Mists lobby, and then place them in the Mystic Forge to create the Wings of Ascension.

  • Recruit’s Wings of Glory – Costs 10 tickets
  • Veteran’s Wings of Glory – Costs 20 tickets
  • Champion’s Wings of Glory – Costs 30 tickets
  • Elite’s Wings of Glory – Costs 40 tickets

All four Wings of Glory will cost you 100 PvP League Tickets, and they have to be purchased in chronological order.

Getting the Gift of the Competitor

Gift of the Competitor

The Gift of the Competitor is one of the hardest items to get as far as The Ascension is concerned. This gift involves four Achievements that will ask you to do the same thing, but with higher frequencies as you complete each part.

  • The Thrill of Battle – Year of the Ascension Part I
  • Tapestry of Sacrifice – Year of the Ascension Part II
  • Monument of Legends – Year of the Ascension Part III
  • Hymn of Glory – Year of the Ascension Part IV

The achievements will involve you winning x number of ranked matches in a specific class, playing ranked games y number of times per day for consecutive days, and so on. The good part is that you will have options, and you don’t have to complete all the achievements from one part before you can proceed to the next part.

Once you have completed all achievements, and earned all the items, simply head over to any Mystic Forge and forge them to create the Gift of the Competitor.

Getting the Gift of Fortune

The Gift of Fortune is an expensive item as you will need a lot of resources to craft it. Nevertheless, to get the Gift of Fortune, you have to place the following materials in the Mystic Forge.

  • Glob of Ectoplasm 250 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • Mystic Clover  77 Mystic Clovers
  • Gift of Magic
  • Gift of Might

Globs of Ectoplasm

Globs of Ectoplasm can be obtained by salvaging rare and exotic gear, or by purchasing them off the Trading Post.

Mystic Clovers

Getting Mystic Clovers can be a hassle sometimes as the ways to obtain them are a bit time-consuming, or gold-consuming, you pick your poison.

This doesn’t mean that there aren’t efficient ways to get them, in fact, you can gamble them at the Mystic Forge, purchase them from Fractals of the Mists, or even get them from repeatable PvP Reward tracks, and this is just to name a few.

Gift of Might

Combine the following material in the Mystic Forge:

  • 250 Vicious Fangs
  • 250  Armored Scales
  • 250  Vicious Claws
  • 250  Ancient Bones

Gift of Magic

Combine the following material in the Mystic Forge:

  • 250 Vials of Powerful Blood
  • 250  Powerful Venom Sacs
  • 250  Elaborate Totems
  • 250  Piles of Crystalline Dust

Getting the Gift of Skirmishing

The final gift would be the Gift of Skirmishing. This is somewhat of an easy gift, which is why I left it for last. The items you would need to craft said gift are the following:

  • 2 Vision Crystals
  • 250 Shards of Glory
  • Perfect Mist Core
  • 5 Certificates of Support – Purchased for PvP League Tickets 5 PvP League Tickets each at the League Vendor

Vision Crystals

Vision Crystal

Vision Crystals can be crafted at every crafting station with the exception of Scribe and Cooking. You will need rank 500 crafting, and the following material:

  • 2 Augur’s Stones – Purchased from Miyani, the NPC next to the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch for Spirit Shards 20 Spirit Shards
  • 10 Dragonite Ingots
  • 10 Empyreal Stars
  • 10 Bloodstone Brick

Shards of Glory

Shard of Glory

Shards of Glory are pretty easy to come across as you will accumulate them as you casually play PvP. Heck, by the time you complete all four Year of the Ascension achievements, you will have well over 250 Shards of Glory.

In case you don’t, you can purchase 10 for one PvP League Ticket, or buy them directly off the Trading Post.

Perfect Mist Core

Combine Four Mist Core Fragments by double-clicking them to form them into a Perfect Mist Core. You can get two Mist Core Fragments every time you complete a Glorious Reward Track.

Take all those items to the Mystic Forge to create the Gift of Skirmishing, but don’t leave the Forge just yet, as you can now craft the final thing.

Let’s get Forging

Now that you have the Gift of Skirmishing, Gift of Fortune, Gift of the Competitor, and the Wings of Ascension, it is time to head back to the Mystic Forge for one last time to place all four items in there and press the Forge Button.

And just like that, you now own The Ascension in Guild Wars 2!

Just as a bonus, you will also get a Glider skin that you can use while gliding your way on ally territory, or anywhere within the maps of GW2.
